Death Cab for Cutie Release Emotional Tribute “Kids in ’99”

Death Cab Cutie have released a new song in tribute to children who lost their lives in the 1999 Bellingham Olympic Pipeline explosion in Seattle, WA, “Kids in ’99.” The track will be featured in the band’s upcoming five-song The Blue EP.

Vocalist/guitarist Benjamin Gibbard described the song in a statement:

“Kids in ’99” is a tribute to the three children who died in 1999 from the Olympic Pipeline explosion in Bellingham, Washington. The Olympic Pipeline explosion in 1999 was a tragedy that really affected me while we were living in Bellingham. After all these years I felt it was worthy of its own folk song.”

The Blue EP is out Sept. 6.
