Janet Weiss, longtime drummer of Sleater-Kinney, announced via Twitter she’s leaving the band after 24 years.
“After intense deliberation and with heavy sadness, I have decided to leave Sleater-Kinney,” Weiss wrote. “The band is heading in a new direction and it is time for me to move on. I will never forget the heights we reached or the magnificent times Corin, Carrie and I shared.”

Following the announcement, Sleater-Kinney shared a response on Instagram, thanking Weiss for her friendship and talents.

The band’s new album The Center Won’t Hold is due Aug. 16, which will feature Weiss on drums.
