SIU to Vote on New System President Thursday, Would Begin Next March

CARBONDALE – An upcoming vote on Thursday will determine the appointment of a new President for the Southern Illinois University system.

According to a release from SIU, the Board of Trustees will meet Thursday with Daniel Mahony, who was selected following a national search advised by comittees representing both the Carbondale and Edwardsville branches, as well as trustees and community members affiliated with the campus.

During the meeting, a vote will take place regarding his appointment. If approved, Mahony will begin his responsibilities with the university system March 1.

Mahony is currently the president of Winthrop University in South Carolina.
